Pakistan Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement, Next Round Of Talks To Be Held In Turkey

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Pakistan's foreign minister welcomed a new ceasefire with Kabul, saying the next meeting will be hosted by Turkey as Islamabad awaits a monitoring mechanism to verify commitments.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement with the Taliban, announcing that the next round of talks will be hosted by Turkey.

In a post on X on Sunday, Dar said Islamabad is awaiting the establishment of a“concrete monitoring mechanism” to verify the Taliban's commitments under the agreement.

He stated that the mechanism should ensure measures to prevent terrorist threats emanating from Afghanistan territory against Pakistan, underscoring the need for tangible steps to maintain regional stability.

Dar emphasized that all parties must make“maximum efforts” to avoid further human casualties amid escalating tensions along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in recent weeks.

Both Pakistan and the Taliban confirmed that a ceasefire was reached during negotiations in Doha. According to the agreement, the Kabul pledged not to support anti-Pakistan militant groups operating within Afghanistan.

The ceasefire was mediated by Qatar and Turkey, marking a rare diplomatic breakthrough following months of violent cross-border clashes and airstrikes.

Analysts say Ankara's role as host of the next meeting reflects Turkey's growing involvement in regional diplomacy and its close ties with both Islamabad and Doha.

Observers caution, however, that lasting peace will depend on whether the Taliban can effectively curb militant activity within Afghanistan and whether Pakistan honors its commitment to restraint along the frontier.
