(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine posted an update as of 16:00 on Friday, October 17, on Facebook.

Russian artillery struck border settlements today, including Malushyne, Kozache, Starykove, Hirky, Bila Bereza, and Bobylivka in the Sumy region, Khrinivka, Hremiach, Orlykivka, Huta Studenetska, and Kliusy in the Chernihiv region.

Two combat engagements have taken place in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors since the beginning of the day. The Russian army has used aviation six times to strike these front areas, dropping 14 guided bombs and carrying out 100 shellings, one of which was from multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy attacks near Vovchansk, and toward Obukhivka and Kolodiazne. Three more clashes are ongoing.

In the Kupiansk sector, Russian troops made six attempts to break through the defense lines in the areas of Pishchane, Petropavlivka, and toward Kupiansk. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, the invaders carried out nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near Hrekivka, Karpivka, Torske, Shandryholove, and Drobysheve, and toward the village of Korovii Yar. Two clashes are ongoing.

In the Sloviansk sector, the Russians were active in the areas of Dronivka and Yampil. The Defense Forces have already repelled one of their attacks. Three more clashes are ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy has not yet carried out any offensive actions today.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, the Russian army carried out seven assaults in the areas of Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Berestok. One battle continues.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the invaders made 22 attempts to dislodge the Defense Forces from their positions in the areas of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Novoekonomichne, Lysivka, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, and Filiia, toward Novopavlivka and Pokrovsk. The defenders are holding back the enemy's advance: 20 attacks have already been repelled. Fighting continues in two locations.

In the Oleksandrohrad sector, Russian troops attempted to break through the defenses toward Orestopil, in the areas of Oleksandrohrad, Sichneve, Novomykolaivka, Novohryhorivka, Vesele, and Malynivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled nine enemy assaults, with four more clashes ongoing.

In the Huliaipole sector, the Russians have not yet carried out any offensive actions today.

In the Orikhiv sector, the invaders tried to advance in the Kamianske area.

In the Prydniprovske sector, the Russian army made one unsuccessful attempt to approach the positions of the Defense Forces in the direction of the Antonivskyi Bridge.

The situation has not changed in the other sectors.

As reported by Ukrinform, fighting with Russian reconnaissance and sabotage groups continues in the city of Pokrovsk, Donetsk region.
