Iran To Issue 200,000 Work Visas For Afghanistan Citizens
Mohammad Reza Bahrami, head of South Asia Affairs at Iran's Foreign Ministry, met Taliban Minister for Refugees and Repatriation, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, in Kabul to discuss the situation of Afghan migrants living in Iran.
According to a statement issued by the Taliban's Ministry of Refugees on Friday, Bahrami announced that Iran will issue 200,000 work visas for Afghanistan citizens as part of a new labour cooperation plan.
Bahrami said Tehran remains committed to its previous agreements and will continue working with Kabul to address the challenges posed by undocumented Afghan migrants in Iran.
In response, Abdul Kabir said the Taliban encourages voluntary repatriation of Afghan migrants but opposes forced deportations, urging Iran and other host countries to act with“understanding and compassion.”
He added that the Taliban government will soon present a formal plan to Tehran outlining steps to regulate and support Afghan migrants who remain in Iran.
The talks come amid growing regional pressure over refugee management, as Pakistan recently ordered Afghan migrants to vacate homes and businesses within a week amid escalating tensions with the Taliban.
