Ukrainian Forces Repel Mechanized Russian Attack On Shakhove, Volodymyrivka

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The First Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine said this in a Telegram post seen by Ukrinform.

On October 16, the Russian army once again attempted a massive mechanized attack on Dobropillia in the Ocheretyne sector. The ultimate goal was to capture the village of Shakhove.

From 05:30 to 08:00, the invaders deployed 22 armored vehicles. The largest column – 11 tanks and armored combat vehicles – advanced at around 07:50 from the Malynivka area.

The Russians began preparing for the assault in advance. To complicate the mining of routes, they set up observation posts to detect and destroy Ukrainian drones.

The enemy command also tried to change its offensive tactics. While previously their columns of armored vehicles with infantry advanced from deep within their own battle formations, this time – on October 15 – the invaders attempted to pull equipment closer to Shakhove and hide it in a tree line.

The maneuver proved unsuccessful: Ukrainian forces detected and destroyed two armored vehicles before the enemy could hide them in the forest.

On October 16, thanks to earlier equipped positions, effective mining, and the coordinated actions of Ukrainian units – primarily the artillery crews of Ukrainian Armed Forces brigades and the National Guard, as well as the crews of the Unmanned Systems Forces – the Russian attack was successfully thwarted.

As a result, the defenders destroyed nine enemy armored vehicles and damaged four others.
