Google Plans Launching AI Hub in India

(MENAFN) Google has revealed plans to establish a $15 billion artificial intelligence center in India, marking its biggest investment in the nation to date.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, shared in a blog post on Tuesday that this substantial investment will be deployed over a five-year period in a facility located in the southern Indian city of Vishakhapatnam.

The new hub is set to include an international subsea gateway as well as a data center campus, as stated by Kurian.

The project will be carried out by AdaniConneX, a collaborative venture between the Adani Group and data center operator EdgeConneX, together with Airtel, which ranks as India’s second-largest telecom company.

This development coincides with India’s rising status as a crucial market for data centers in Asia.

Reliance Jio, the country’s largest network services provider, has announced agreements with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, and Google, involving the construction of a gigawatt-scale data center in Gujarat’s western region, according to a media outlet.

Additionally, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is reportedly exploring partnerships in India to establish a data center with a capacity of at least 1 gigawatt, as noted in a Bloomberg article.

Other major players like Amazon and Tata Consultancy Services, India’s leading IT services provider, have also revealed ambitious, capital-intensive plans focused on artificial intelligence.
