Iran Calls in Polish Diplomat Over Drone Exhibit in London
(MENAFN) Iran has formally summoned Poland’s Charge d’Affaires, Marcin Wilczek, to lodge a protest following a public display of an Iranian-made drone by Poland’s foreign minister at a recent event in London.
The diplomatic summons came after Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski unveiled a Shahed-136 drone during a presentation at the British Parliament on Tuesday, asserting the drone was used by Russia in its military operations against Ukraine.
In response, Mahmoud Heidari, head of Mediterranean and Eastern European affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, called in the Polish diplomat on Thursday, denouncing Sikorski’s statements and the exhibition itself.
Heidari condemned the remarks as “meddlesome” and dismissed them as “baseless claims,” expressing Tehran’s “strong protest” to Warsaw. He criticized what he called a repetition of “cliched claims,” reiterating Iran’s denial of any involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
The Polish envoy, for his part, reaffirmed Warsaw’s interest in maintaining constructive ties with Tehran and pledged to swiftly deliver Iran’s protest and position to the Polish Foreign Ministry.
Western governments and Ukraine have long accused Iran of supplying drones and other military hardware to Russia, allegations both Tehran and Moscow have consistently rejected as “baseless.”
