Erdogan Reaffirms Support for Gaza Peace Declaration
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s unwavering backing for the Gaza peace declaration adopted earlier this week.
Addressing the public after a Cabinet gathering in Ankara on Wednesday, Erdogan expressed Turkey's firm stance.
He stated: “We will fully support the (Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt) declaration through the end, and I believe the United States, Egypt, and Qatar will all take a similar position.”
These comments came in the wake of a high-level summit held Monday in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
The event, attended by over 20 global leaders, was hosted by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. During the summit, a significant declaration aiming to reinforce a ceasefire and pursue lasting peace in Gaza was officially endorsed.
President Erdogan, alongside Trump, Sisi, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, signed the agreement, voicing collective support for halting the conflict and establishing sustainable peace in the region.
Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, Erdogan emphasized the necessity of global cooperation to assist the Palestinian population.
He noted, “Every effort to ease the burden of the oppressed people of Gaza is valuable to us. It is not anyone’s place or right to belittle this by simply saying ‘they signed a ceasefire’.”
Erdogan also pointed out that Turkey has delivered more than 100,000 tons of humanitarian relief to Gaza.
He underlined the country's consistent advocacy for the Palestinian cause in every international forum they have participated in.
He emphasized that Turkey has persistently pushed for a ceasefire while steadfastly defending Gaza’s rights without hesitation.
