Arab League Affirms Importance Of Adopting Arab Personal Data Protection Convention

CAIRO, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Wednesday affirmed the importance of adopting the draft Arab Convention on Personal Data Protection to ensure information security and safeguard digital privacy across member states within the Arab region.
This came during the opening of the third meeting of the joint committee of experts and representatives from Arab ministries of justice, interior, and relevant authorities, chaired by Algeria, with the participation of Kuwait.
Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Arab League, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Maha Bakhit, said in her speech that the draft convention stems from the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice No. (37) based on Algeria's initiative to establish a comprehensive Arab framework for protecting personal data.
Bakhit affirmed that the draft convention represents a vital step toward strengthening Arab cooperation in the field of data protection and ensuring digital privacy amid rapid regional and global technological transformations.
She explained that the meeting aims to finalize discussions on the articles of the draft convention, prepare its final version, and submit recommendations to the upcoming joint session of Arab Ministers of Justice and Interior scheduled for November. (end)
