A renewed exchange of gunfire has broken out between Pakistani and Afghan forces at the Shorko border crossing in the Kurram district, with intermittent firing continuing on both sides, police sources confirmed on Tuesday.

According to officials, Pakistani forces have also launched artillery strikes targeting militant hideouts in response to the ongoing hostilities.

Security sources report that the situation remains tense across multiple border points in Kurram, and forces have been placed on high alert amid fears of further escalations.

Eyewitnesses say that local residents on both sides of the border have begun fleeing to safer areas to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Background: Deadly Cross-Border Clashes This Week

The renewed skirmishes come just two days after a major cross-border assault allegedly carried out by Afghan Taliban fighters, reportedly in coordination with a pro-India militant group known as“Fitna al-Khawarij”, on the night of October 11–12.

In retaliation to what Pakistan described as unprovoked aggression, the Pakistan Army reportedly captured 21 Taliban positions temporarily, resulting in the deaths of over 200 militants, with many more wounded, according to official sources.

Heavy Casualties on Both Sides

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that 23 Pakistani soldiers were martyred in the cross-border gunfire, one of the deadliest confrontations in recent months.
