Trump makes up his mind about giving Ukraine Tomahawks
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has indicated that he has already made up his mind on whether Ukraine will receive long-range Tomahawk missiles but has declined to disclose his decision.
Last month, US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that the White House was weighing the possibility of supplying Kiev with these rockets.
“I’ve sort of made a decision on that. I would have to ask the question where are they sending them,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday. He added, “I’m not looking to see escalation.”
Tomahawk missiles are estimated to cost around $1.3 million each and have a range of approximately 2,500 km (1,550 miles), potentially allowing them to reach Moscow and areas far beyond.
Russian President Vladimir Putin subsequently cautioned that supplying Ukraine with such weapons could devastate Moscow-Washington relations. He also suggested that Ukrainian forces would be unable to operate the complex system without the “direct participation of American military personnel.”
According to reports citing anonymous sources, the US is considered unlikely to provide Tomahawks to Ukraine, as existing stockpiles are already allocated to the US Navy and other missions. Other analyses indicate that some advisors close to Trump question whether the missiles would significantly alter the situation on the battlefield.
