(MENAFN) A helicopter crashed Monday evening on a busy freeway in Sacramento, California, causing serious injuries to several people, media reported. The incident took place on the eastbound lanes of Highway 50, just west of 59th Street.

"There has been a harrowing helicopter crash on 50 eastbound west of 59th St.," Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty posted on the social media platform X, thanking the Sacramento Fire Department’s first responders for their swift action at the scene.

According to media, at least three individuals suffered critical injuries in the crash. Emergency personnel worked quickly to evacuate survivors and transport them to local hospitals, where they are currently receiving treatment, McCarty confirmed.
