Iran Cautions Against U.S. Gaza Ceasefire Proposal
(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement late Sunday, reaffirming its support for any measure aimed at halting “the ethnic cleansing and inhumane war crimes” in Gaza while enabling Palestinians to claim their right to self-determination.
The ministry sharply criticized the ceasefire proposal put forth by the U.S., labeling the plan as having “precarious dimensions and aspects.” It cautioned against trusting Israel’s commitments, pointing to the country’s ongoing “expansionist and racist” actions as evidence of repeated violations.
Iran emphasized the obligation of other nations to protect Palestinian rights, stressing the need for freedom from Israeli occupation. The statement further expressed support for efforts to “end the ongoing genocide” targeting Palestinians in Gaza, calling for the Israeli military’s withdrawal, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the region’s reconstruction.
This condemnation came just before the Trump administration revealed a 20-point framework on Monday, proposing a ceasefire tied to hostage exchanges, a phased Israeli withdrawal, a demilitarized Gaza, and international supervision over Gaza’s rebuilding and governance once the conflict subsides.
