Israel will deport Greta Thunberg to Greece on Monday
(MENAFN) Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is set to be deported to Greece on Monday after being detained aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was attempting to reach the Gaza Strip to challenge Israel’s blockade, according to reports.
She will reportedly travel alongside Greek nationals who were also held after participating in the flotilla. A total of 165 activists are expected to be deported on the same flight.
Thunberg was among more than 400 activists, parliamentarians, and lawyers detained following an Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla on Wednesday. Some detainees have already been deported, while legal proceedings continue for others.
According to correspondence seen by reports, Thunberg informed Swedish officials that she had been confined in a bedbug-infested cell with inadequate food and water.
Other detainees also described her treatment, with one stating that Israeli forces compelled Thunberg to hold flags for photographs. Turkish activist Ersin Celik told reports that Israeli forces "severely tortured Greta before our eyes" and "made her crawl and made her kiss the Israeli flag." Italian journalist Lorenzo D'Agostino added that she was "wrapped in the Israeli flag and paraded like a trophy."
