Türkiye, Nigeria to Strengthen Diplomatic, Economic Ties

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to meet with his Nigerian counterpart Yusuf Tuggar, who will visit Türkiye on Monday, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

During Tuggar’s inaugural visit to Türkiye, Fidan is expected to commend Nigeria’s positive role in promoting regional stability, prosperity, and peace across West Africa.

The discussions are also anticipated to focus on measures to boost bilateral trade and mutual investments between Türkiye and Nigeria, including topics relevant to Turkish enterprises.

Fidan will underscore the considerable opportunities to further enhance collaboration in military and defense sectors, while emphasizing the significance of joint efforts and solidarity in combating terrorist organizations.

Moreover, he is expected to highlight the importance of increased cooperation between the two nations within international bodies such as the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation.

The Turkish minister will stress the necessity of continued dialogue between Türkiye and Nigeria—both participants in the OIC-Arab League Gaza Contact Group—concerning the maintenance of the Gaza ceasefire, improvement of humanitarian conditions, and advancement of a two-state resolution.

Lastly, Fidan is likely to reaffirm the significance of consensus between Ankara and Abuja on upholding Somalia’s sovereignty, national cohesion, and territorial integrity in line with international law.
