Putin: Multipolarity Represents Way For Int'l Balance

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- Russia's President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the world is witnessing "fundamental shifts" in international relations, stressing that multipolarity is the path to ensure global balance and stability.
Speaking at the Valdai International Club, Putin added that the era of dictates has come to an end, noting that any unilateral decision that disregards the interests of all is "inapplicable."
The West's ambitions for dominance are destined to fail, he stated, noting Russia is open to cooperation with the Western countries.
Russia was ready to join the NATO in 1954 and 2000, but its request was rejected by some Western countries, he said.
International system needs Russia as a balance of power, and international equilibrium could not be achieved without Russia's participation.
He stressed that Moscow has not intended to attack NATO countries, warning, at the same time, against provoking Russia.
The West could not provide an effective solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the settlement of this issue could not be achieved by the formula of Western diplomacy, he noted.
Remarks saying that Russia may attack the NATO are "nonsense", and Moscow will rapidly retaliate to any threats to its sovereignty, he stressed.
NATO members, he said, were providing Ukraine with intelligence, weapons and training.
The club, forum, held in its 22nd session in the Russia City of Sochi from September 29 until October 2.
It aimed at discussing radical shifts in international system, focusing on multipolarity as a means to ensure global balance and stability. (end)
