PDTRA, UNESCO Explore New Avenues Of Cooperation

Petra, Oct. 1 (Petra) – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner, Fares Breizat, discussed with a visiting UNESCO delegation ways to strengthen cooperation in heritage management and the protection of Petra's natural and cultural environment.
The visit is part of ongoing joint efforts between PDTRA and UNESCO to safeguard the archaeological site, ensure the sustainability of tourism activities, and review local experiences tied to Bedouin life in Petra and Wadi Rum, which has been listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2008.
During the tour, the delegation visited the Shaqila Handicrafts Center, where the authority is training local talent in traditional crafts.
Breizat underscored the importance of the partnership with UNESCO in supporting Petra as one of the world's most prominent heritage sites, noting the authority's commitment to integrated plans that preserve the city's historical identity and secure its ability to welcome visitors from around the globe.
The visit marks a further step in ongoing cooperation between Petra and UNESCO to maintain the archaeological reserve as a global cultural and tourism destination for future generations.
