A married woman and a young man were killed in the name of honour in Tangi tehsil of Charsadda district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Police said the two were believed to have had a close friendship.

According to Station Clerk (Muharrar) Shoaib Khan of Mandani Police Station, the incident took place on the night of October 1 in Bahram Dheri, where a father and son allegedly shot dead Shah Faisal and a woman identified as (Mst. A).

The First Information Report (FIR) stated that the victim Shah Faisal's father, Sher Ali, told police his son was a BS student at Peshawar University. He alleged that the suspects lured Faisal home from the university on some pretext and killed him. Both victims were between 22 and 23 years old.

Police registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 311 (honour killing), and 34 (multiple accused) of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation. However, no arrests have been made so far.

Reports said the woman's funeral prayer was held quietly at night, while the young man's funeral was offered in his ancestral area of Lunday Road, Bahram Dheri.

Honour killings are not new in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where several couples have fallen victim to such incidents in the past, with women often bearing the greater brunt.

According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), 346 people were killed in honour-related incidents across the country in 2024. In its annual report, the HRCP said these crimes are rooted in outdated traditions of so-called family honour. The report demanded impartial investigations into such cases and urged that honour killing be treated as a non-compoundable offence to ensure justice.

Earlier this year, on March 8 - International Women's Day - the Senate of Pakistan also passed a resolution calling on the government to take immediate and effective steps to end violence against women, including honour killings, and to ensure equal rights for women.
