Canada issues high-alert travel advisory for India, warning of travel to J&K, Assam, Manipur

Srinagar - The Government of Canada has issued an updated travel advisory for India, warning its citizens to exercise a high degree of caution due to ongoing security risks, including terrorism, civil unrest, and crime.

The advisory strongly discourages travel to certain regions, singling out Jammu and Kashmir as particularly unsafe.“Avoid all travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir due to unpredictable security conditions, threats of terrorism, militancy, civil unrest, and kidnapping,” the Canadian government warned, while clarifying that travel to Ladakh remains unaffected by the restrictions.

Non-essential travel is also discouraged to the northeastern states of Assam and Manipur, where insurgency, armed conflict, and sporadic violence continue to create instability.

In addition, Canada has advised against travel within 10 kilometers of India's border with Pakistan in Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan, citing risks from terrorism, cross-border tensions, and the presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance. The Attari-Wagah crossing, the only official land border point between India and Pakistan, is currently closed, further complicating travel in these areas.
