Zubeen Garg Death Probe: Musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami Detained Organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta In Spotlight
The mystery regarding iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg's death continues with the police detention of musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who was allegedly on the yacht with the singer just before he passed away.
Goswami was taken into custody by the Assam Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) that has been set up to probe the musician's death.
Another person now in the spotlight is Shyamkanu Mahanta , who was the chief organiser of the Northeast India Festival where Garg had gone to perform in Singapore before his death. In the wake of the incident, the Assam government has banned Mahanta from holding events or functions in the state.

Another elder brother of his is Nani Gopal Mahanta, who was the Education Advisor to Sarma before becoming Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University.
Raids were also conducted at Mahanta's residence, as well as that of Siddhartha Sharma, Garg's manager.
Protests outside manager's residenceA group of people, which had gathered outside the residence of Garg's manager, hurled stones at police vehicles following which the security personnel baton-charged them, officials said, as per PTI.
The police personnel were escorting an SIT team to the manager's house in connection with its probe into the singer's death. Angry protestors were demanding his immediate arrest for being allegedly responsible for the singer's death. They also tried to break open the main entrance gate to the apartment block premises but a heavy deployment of police force prevented them.

The police personnel on duty at the gate were also attacked. The police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd so that police vehicles could move out of the area. Two persons have been detained for allegedly provoking the crowd gathered to create disturbances in the area, an official said.
Ready for CBI probe: Assam govtThe Assam government has also said that it is ready for a CBI probe to be conducted into Garg's death if the SIT investigation is found to be ''unsatisfactory''.
'I appeal to people to have faith in the SIT probe and not circulate rumours on social media which may hamper the investigations," Sarma said, as per PTI.
