India's Skilled Workforce & Clean Energy Cooperation With US Highlighted Amid H-1B Fee Hike

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Sep 24 (KNN) India's contribution to the US economy through its skilled workforce, and the scope for greater cooperation in clean energy, were highlighted on Wednesday, against the backdrop of Washington's decision to impose a one-time USD 100,000 fee on new H-1B visa applicants.

Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said,“We also provide a huge amount of talent and innovation, for which Indian engineers and graduates are famous. That also provides us an opportunity to provide solutions for corporations across the world including in the US to support their growth plans, to focus on new research and development and new ideas,” according to ANI.

Goyal added, "Other area where India and US can plan to work together is Nuclear power... There were certain elements that needed to be set right and we are working together to support the private efforts of nuclear power. Also the small modular nuclear power. Innovation is happening in the US and sort out the issue of liability.”

He further said,“India continues to invest in nuclear power, we would probably double our nuclear power in the coming years through government intervention. But, we do take it on a much bigger scale , it has had challenges of price, cost of energy, which will need to be sorted out."

The comments came a day after US President Donald Trump, in his UN General Assembly speech, accused India and China of continuing to purchase Russian oil, calling them primary funders of the conflict in Ukraine.

India has maintained that its imports are guided by market forces and national energy security considerations.
