Openai, Oracle And Softbank Will Build $500 Billion AI Data Centers In The U.S.

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank will build five massive AI data centers in the U.S. under the $500 billion Stargate project, creating 25,000 jobs.
OpenAI, in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank, has unveiled plans to build five large-scale artificial intelligence data centers across the United States under the $500 billion“Stargate” project.

Reuters reported on September 23 that three facilities-located in Texas, New Mexico, and another western U.S. region-will be constructed jointly by OpenAI and Oracle. Two additional centers, in Ohio and Texas, will be developed with SoftBank's partnership.

The ambitious project is expected to increase data center capacity by up to 7 gigawatts. It is also projected to attract more than $400 billion in investment within the next three years.

OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman emphasised that AI can only achieve its full potential if the necessary computing backbone is built.“Artificial intelligence will only deliver on its promises when we build the infrastructure it requires,” he said.

Backed directly by U.S. President Donald Trump, the initiative is also expected to create 25,000 jobs, highlighting Washington's political and economic support for AI expansion.

Meanwhile, Nvidia has committed up to $100 billion in investments for OpenAI and will provide high-performance chips to power the upcoming facilities.

Analysts say the Stargate project reflects the intensifying global race to dominate AI infrastructure. They note that the U.S. aims to secure technological leadership amid rising competition from China and other major powers.
