US Vows to Fully Defend NATO
(MENAFN) The United States is ready to protect “every inch of NATO territory,” Washington’s representative to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated on Monday during a UN Security Council session.
This assurance comes after Poland and Estonia accused Russia of breaching their airspace—allegations that Moscow dismisses as unfounded.
The Security Council convened to discuss Tallinn’s claim that Russian fighter jets entered Estonian airspace last week.
Earlier this month, Poland charged Russia with intentionally sending drones across its border from Belarus, prompting a coordinated NATO response.
“The United States and our allies will defend every inch of NATO territory,” Waltz declared, suggesting that Russia either “wants to escalate and pull more countries” into the Ukraine conflict or is not fully controlling its forces.
Russian Deputy Representative Dmitry Polyansky reaffirmed Moscow’s denials and accused European NATO members of attempting to undermine improving US-Russia relations since President Donald Trump assumed office in January.
He asserted that European leaders are trying to push Trump “back to an anti-Russian course” and likened their conduct to “an unhinged, paranoid person who is completely incapable of responding to criticism.”
President Trump has minimized the Polish incident, questioning whether it was deliberately carried out by Russia as Warsaw claims, but he has emphasized that NATO’s mutual defense obligations remain intact.
