Chinese City Confirms 1,714 Chikungunya Cases

(MENAFN) Authorities in Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, have confirmed 1,714 cases of Chikungunya fever by Friday, triggering a Level III public health emergency response, officials announced.

During a Saturday press briefing, local officials highlighted that all reported cases to date have been mild, with no instances of severe illness or fatalities.

The decision to escalate the public health alert was made Friday, reflecting the rising spread of the mosquito-borne viral illness in the city.

Chikungunya fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus, presenting symptoms such as fever, rashes, and joint pain. The virus spreads to humans via bites from infected mosquitoes.
