'Any Agents Promising...': India Issues Advisory After Nationals Lured To Travel To Iran On False Employment Promises

(MENAFN- Live Mint) India has issued an advisory, urging citizens to remain vigilant regarding employment promises and offers, citing case of Indian nationals who have been lured to travel to Iran on false promises of employment, or with assurances that they would be sent to other countries for employment.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) further stated that any agent promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other purposes may well be in connivance with criminal gangs – thus urging citizens not to“fall prey” to any offers.

Upon reaching Iran, the Indian nationals have been "kidnapped by criminal gangs and ransoms have been demanded from their families for securing their release,” the MEA said in its statement issued on Friday.

“It may be noted that the Government of Iran allows visa-free entry to Indians only for tourism purposes. Any agents promising visa-free entry into Iran for employment or other purposes may well be in connivance with criminal gangs,” the MEA said.

The MEA's latest advisory about job offers comes hours after it issued an advisory, urging citizens travelling to Nepal to remain cautious.

Advisory for Nepal

India on Friday issued an advisory for its national travelling to the Himalayan nation, asking them to exercise due caution.

“Indian nationals travelling to Nepal are, however, advised to exercise due caution and adhere to advisories / updates that may be issued by Embassy of India in Kathmandu or local authorities of Nepal,” the Embassy said.

The Indian High Commission also issued helpline numbers in case Indian nationals in Nepal need any assistance.
