Drone Wall To Protect Both EU And Ukraine European Commission

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) European Commission Spokesperson Thomas Regnier announced this at a briefing in Brussels, reports a Ukrinform correspondent.

“So, indeed, Commissioner Kubelius mentioned yesterday that he will continue his work on the upcoming drone wall, a drone wall that was also announced by President von der Leyen in her State of the Union address. Precisely because we have seen recent events in Romania and in Poland highlighting once again the need of the European Union to protect itself, to defend itself, and this, of course, includes protecting our front-line countries and Ukraine against potential drone attacks,” the spokesperson said.

He recalled that European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius and the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had visited EU member states on the eastern flank, whose governments have already expressed interest in the Drone Wall project. Regnier added that the SAFE instrument (Security Action for Europe) will help finance the Drone Wall, provided member states include its key components in their national plans, which must be submitted to the Commission by November 30.

He also stressed that Ukraine“is fully associated by default with SAFE. So, of course, such a drone wall would protect Ukraine, the EU, and by definition, and also certain NATO member states”.

As reported earlier, in an interview with Ukrinform, Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius said that the EU's proposed Drone Wall should be built jointly with Ukraine, given its extensive experience in countering drones.

Kubilius plans to hold talks with EU defence ministers next week on establishing a Drone Wall along the bloc's eastern border.

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak stated that Ukraine should also be involved in the project to build a Drone Wall along the eastern border to defend against Russian attacks.
