Srinagar- Kashmir's leading eco-campaigner took the Doodh Ganga conservation message to the campus, hoping to catch students young.
At Government Higher Secondary School in Zoohama, Dr. Raja Muzaffar addressed students on Thursday, warning that the river, a lifeline for nearly one million people in Chadoora and Srinagar uptown, is under increasing threat.
“The Doodh Ganga is being polluted daily,” Dr. Muzaffar said.“People dump waste into it. Illegal riverbed mining has damaged embankments and weakened irrigation canals. If we do not act now, paddy fields, vegetable farms, and apple orchards will face severe losses.”
He also cautioned that Kashmir's glaciers are melting at an unprecedented pace, signaling a looming water crisis.“The same water that feeds our homes and farms is being contaminated,” he said.“This is a war with nature, and we are on the losing side if action is delayed.”
