GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty-two couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony with financial support of charity foundations and national traders in southern Ghazni province.

The joint wedding ceremony was held this afternoon in a private wedding hall in Ghazni city.

Qari Mohammad Ghous Kawosh, one of the organizers and head of the Saadat Charity Foundation, told Pajhwok Afghan News the ceremony was organized to avoid excessive expenses.

He said these 44 brides and grooms were unable to hold their own wedding ceremonies due to financial difficulties.

According to him, they had held similar joint wedding ceremonies before, and this was the fourth time in the past four years they held such an event.

According to him, this wedding ceremony cost 850,000 afghanis paid by Sadat Foundation and some traders from their personal expense.

The trend of holding joint wedding ceremonies will continue in order to prevent high costs, high bride prices, and moral corruption in society, Kawosh added.

Some of the grooms said they could not afford the wedding expenses on their own, so they participated in the mass wedding ceremony.

Ahmad Fawad, one of the 22 grooms, said he was happy to have attended this wedding because he could not afford to arrange his wedding.

Shah Alam, a wedding participant, told Pajhwok such weddings saved families from a lot of expenses. He explained, on the one hand, there was an economic crisis throughout the country, and on the other, many young people were unemployed and unable to hold wedding ceremonies.

He thanked the Sadat Foundation and traders for organizing the joint wedding ceremony for 44 brides and grooms, saving them from a lot of expenses.

Joint wedding ceremonies are held in Ghazni every year with the help of various institutions, national traders, and religious scholars, and similar weddings have been held in many provinces of the country before.
