Canada Blasts Russian Drones Breach of Poland’s Skies
(MENAFN) Canada sharply criticized Russia on Wednesday following reports from Polish officials that Russian drones breached Polish and NATO airspace amid overnight attacks on Ukraine.
"Overnight, Russian drones violated Polish, and NATO, airspace during an attack against Ukraine. Yet another horrendous example of Putin's refusal to seek peace," stated Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the social media platform X.
Emphasizing Canada’s unwavering support for its allies, Anand declared: "Without question, Canada stands in full solidarity with Poland and Ukraine. We continue to call on Russia to put an end to its unjustified and illegal war."
These comments came shortly after the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command announced early Wednesday that fighter jets from Poland and its allies were deployed as "drone-type objects repeatedly" crossed into Polish airspace.
"This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens," the command said on social media.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that authorities initially documented 19 violations of Polish airspace.
Poland has previously reported incursions of Russian drones and missiles during overnight assaults targeting Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed it had no intention of striking any targets in Poland during the Tuesday night offensive and expressed willingness to engage with Polish military officials about the incident.
