Mauritania To Launch New Sugar Production Project

(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – A new sugar production project will be implemented in Mauritania starting early next year, in the Foum Gleita region. The announcement was made on Monday (8) by the country's Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Momma Ould Beibata, during a meeting at the headquarters of the Mauritanian Sugar and Derivatives Company, alongside other officials and local farmers.

The news was published on Tuesday (9) by Mauritanian state news agency AMI . According to the announcement, the project will be a public-private partnership. The minister said the decision to implement production under this cooperative model between the public and private sectors was made after no company with the necessary expertise was found to achieve the desired objectives.

The Foum Gleita community is part of the M'Bout Department, in the Gorgol region, in northern Mauritania. According to the minister, the region was chosen because of its agricultural capacities. The governor of Gorgol, Mohamed Mokhtar Ould Abdi, attended the meeting and announcement, as did the General Delegate for National Solidarity and the Fight Against Exclusion, Cheikh Abdullah Beddah.
