Lebanon Reports Five Civilians Died in Israeli Airstrikes
(MENAFN) A deadly wave of Israeli airstrikes struck southern Lebanon on Wednesday, killing five people and injuring several others, the Health Ministry confirmed.
Israeli jets and drones targeted multiple towns, with one fatality reported in each of Taybeh, Shebaa, Yater, and Khraibeh, along with various injuries, the ministry’s Emergency Operations Center announced in a series of statements.
Later, Lebanese media reported heavy Israeli air attacks “targeting the area between the towns of Ansariyeh and Adloun, resulting in the death of a man from the Syrian community, while several minor injuries were also recorded.”
The strikes coincided with an Israeli military operation near Aitaroun, where the Israeli army demolished a house on the outskirts, according to media.
Media detailed that an Israeli force advanced toward the foothills of Jabal al-Bout near Aitaroun, destroying a Lebanese home situated mere hundreds of meters from the occupied Jal al-Deir site.
Israeli drones reportedly deployed stun grenades in Houla amid residents moving furniture, though no injuries were reported.
Drone surveillance was intense across Nabatieh, Iqlim al-Tuffah, Zibdin, Mayfadoun, Chaqra, and other southern towns. Media noted that Israeli drones dropped a grenade near an excavator in Yaroun for the second time and another grenade landed near heavy equipment in Meiss al-Jabal after releasing munitions. Additionally, leaflets were scattered over the eastern neighborhood of Meiss al-Jabal.
Drones were also seen flying over Jibchit, Zrariyeh, Kfar Sir, Aitaroun, and Maroun al-Ras, the agency added.
Wednesday’s attacks come just days after a drone strike killed a Lebanese civilian on a motorcycle in Nabatieh district, part of a series of Israeli airstrikes that also struck Ali al-Taher and Kfar Tebnit, sparking fires and damaging homes.
Israel initiated a military offensive in Lebanon on October 8, 2023, which escalated into full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in over 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries.
Although a ceasefire was reached in November, Israeli forces have carried out near-daily strikes in southern Lebanon, citing efforts to disrupt Hezbollah activities.
Under the truce, Israel was expected to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was postponed to February 18 after Tel Aviv declined to comply fully.
Israel continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
