Assault on Turkish Police Station Kills Two Officers


(MENAFN) An armed assault targeting a police station in Türkiye's western Izmir province on Monday resulted in the deaths of two police officers and wounded another, officials reported.

The 16-year-old assailant fired a rifle at the Salih İsgoren police station located in Izmir's Balcova district.

The officer who sustained injuries was transported to the Dokuz Eylul University Research and Application Hospital for treatment.

In a statement on Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the suspect had been apprehended.

Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc also indicated on NSosyal that the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had initiated a judicial inquiry into the incident.
