Jordan Sees 4.5 Percent Drop in Illiteracy Rate
(MENAFN) Jordan's national illiteracy rate dropped to 4.5 percent in 2024, according to official figures released Sunday, underscoring a major educational improvement over the last 20 years.
The data, published by the Department of Statistics, comes just ahead of International Literacy Day, which is commemorated annually on September 8.
Illiteracy rates remain uneven across genders, with 2.3 percent of Jordanian males and 6.8 percent of females unable to read or write, the department reported.
The country’s youngest citizens demonstrated the strongest literacy performance. Among those aged 15 to 24, the illiteracy rate stood at just 0.7 percent. In contrast, the highest rate was recorded among Jordanians aged 65 and older, at 23.3 percent.
