Trendyol presents its new initiative at United Nations General Assembly in NY
(MENAFN) Trendyol, Türkiye’s leading e-commerce platform, showcased its “Villages of Tomorrow” initiative at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, in partnership with the UN Development Program (UNDP). The project focuses on advancing rural development by leveraging technology, digitalization, and entrepreneurship, while empowering women and youth.
The presentation took place during the UN panel, “Bridging the Digital Divide with Inclusive Rural Development,” featuring Türkiye’s UN Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, Trendyol Vice President Sinan Cem Sahin, and UNDP’s Susan Brown, moderated by UNDP’s Nick Rene Hartmann.
The initiative has delivered tangible results in rural communities. For example, a beekeeping family in İzmir expanded from three to 400 hives, and a student robotics team in Adana qualified for the world finals in Italy. Nearly 4,000 participants have benefited from digital centers, with smart farming practices improving irrigation efficiency by 28% and reducing pesticide use by 30%. Participants have also formed a volunteer network to share knowledge and strengthen community ties.
Additionally, Trendyol launched the “Villages of Tomorrow Boutique” on its platform, linking hundreds of local products—including handmade goods, agricultural items, and cultural designs—to millions of customers. The boutique provides support to entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and gain national and international exposure.
