Entergy Commemorates The 20Th Anniversary Of Hurricane Katrina Through Community Partnership And Service
In the same spirit of collaboration, Entergy joined longstanding partners, the United Way of Southeast Louisiana and Rebuilding Together New Orleans, to commemorate the anniversary at the grand opening of the new The Resiliency Center. Employees in New Orleans participated in a citywide Day of Service while peers in Jefferson Parish volunteered for a shoreline restoration project in Bucktown in partnership with the Pontchartrain Conservancy.
The Resiliency Center serves as a powerful symbol of preparedness and renewal. Located in the St. Claude neighborhood, the center will provide resources to help families prepare for and recover from future disasters. The event brought together civic leaders, nonprofit organizations, and elected officials, including U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and members of the New Orleans City Council. Their presence highlighted the essential role of collaboration in building stronger, more resilient communities.
“In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, we identified an urgent need to empower families in their pursuit of financial stability,” said Drew Marsh (above), chair and chief executive officer of Entergy.“Entergy's commitment to uplifting the communities we serve remains central to our mission of renewal. Our ongoing partnership with United Way of Southeast Louisiana and support of projects like The Resiliency Center not only uplifts individuals but also strengthens the fabric of our community.”
While the ribbon cutting took place, Entergy employees and volunteers were engaged in a citywide Day of Service. In partnership with Rebuilding Together New Orleans, more than 100 volunteers completed essential home repairs and energy-efficiency upgrades at five homes, across the city.
“Entergy's Day of Service is not just about home repairs-it is about restoring hope, ensuring safety, and strengthening neighborhoods,” said Deanna Rodriguez, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans.“It reflects our continued dedication to the people of New Orleans-our customers, partners, and fellow residents.”
Hurricane Katrina had a profound effect on Entergy employees, many of whom experienced personal loss during the storm. Since 2005, Entergy has donated more than $500,000 in grants to support Rebuilding Together New Orleans and other local organizations and contributed countless volunteer hours. Twenty years later, our continued dedication to community service reflects a shared commitment to building a safer, stronger future.
The commemorative day highlighted the enduring power of partnership and impact of collective action. Entergy remains committed to honoring our shared past and to building a more resilient future.
