Xi Jinping Hosts Major SCO Summit in Tianjin
(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping convened a high-profile gathering of world leaders on Sunday in the northern city of Tianjin, marking a significant event for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), according to an official news agency.
President Xi conducted one-on-one meetings with several international heads of state and government, such as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
These discussions aimed to deepen bilateral collaboration and advance regional integration under the SCO framework.
In discussions with President Aliyev, Xi reaffirmed China’s endorsement of Azerbaijan’s accession to the SCO.
He emphasized that both nations should preserve “strategic communication” and broaden their collaborative efforts in multiple sectors.
The two parties also formalized a series of agreements covering artificial intelligence, scientific and technological development, finance, media, and additional domains.
While meeting with Prime Minister Pashinyan, Xi revealed the formation of a strategic alliance between China and Armenia.
He further stated that China supports Yerevan’s ambition to join the SCO, signaling a new chapter in their diplomatic ties.
In his dialogue with Belarusian President Lukashenko, Xi encouraged the continuation of mutual backing on each nation’s “core interests and major concerns.”
The countries also concluded multiple agreements spanning science and technology, financial cooperation, metrology, media, transportation, and customs-related protocols.
Prior to Sunday’s summit, President Xi also held talks on Saturday with several other prominent figures, including Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Myanmar’s acting President Min Aung Hlaing, Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
These meetings further underscored China’s expanding diplomatic outreach and its central role in the SCO.
