Trump, Takaichi Pledge to Forge New Era of US-Japan Relations

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that ties between the United States and Japan are set to attain unprecedented strength during his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo.

"I have always had a great love of Japan and a great respect of Japan, and I will say that this will be a relationship that will be stronger than ever before," Trump declared.

He promised steadfast backing to Tokyo, assuring Takaichi that the US would support Japan on "any question, any doubt, anything you want, any favors you need," and characterized the partnership between the two nations as being "at the strongest level."

Trump also recognized Japan’s significant progress in enhancing its defense abilities "very substantially," pointing out that Washington had received "orders for a very large amount of new military equipment."

He further mentioned that bilateral trade had reached record highs as both countries prepared to finalize a new agreement considered "very fair."

"I'd also like to congratulate you on being the first woman prime minister. That's a big deal," he remarked.

Takaichi expressed her ambition for Tokyo “to realize a new golden age of the Japan-US alliance, where both Japan and the United States will become stronger and also more prosperous.”

She commended Trump’s “unwavering commitment towards peace and stability,” noting that within a short period, “the world started to enjoy more peace on the ground.”

The Japanese leader concluded by emphasizing that the two nations “have developed the greatest alliance in the world, and together with you, Japan is ready to contribute towards peace and stability.”
