Russia Launches Drone Attacks on Ukraine Energy Infrastructure

(MENAFN) Russia carried out a series of drone attacks overnight Wednesday targeting Ukraine’s critical energy and gas transit infrastructure across six regions, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry confirmed in an official statement.

The offensive struck multiple key areas, including northern regions Chernihiv and Sumy, eastern territories Kharkiv and Donetsk, the southern Zaporizhzhia region, as well as the central Poltava region. The ministry reported substantial damage to gas transportation facilities specifically in Poltava, highlighting the severity of the assault on Ukraine’s energy network.

In response, the Ukrainian Air Force intercepted the majority of the drones. According to their reports, 74 out of 95 drones launched by Russian forces were successfully shot down, though 21 drones managed to penetrate defenses and struck nine separate locations.

This aggressive campaign underscores the ongoing threats to Ukraine’s vital infrastructure amid continued hostilities. The Energy Ministry’s statement emphasizes the scale and coordination behind these drone strikes, signaling a persistent Russian effort to disrupt Ukraine’s energy stability.
