Media reports Putin to spend four days in China

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to travel to China next week for a four-day visit, during which he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian media reported on Sunday. The trip will also include participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, featuring extensive discussions between the delegations, according to Kremlin correspondent Pavel Zarubin. This visit is expected to be Putin’s longest foreign trip since 2014.

The SCO summit is scheduled to begin on August 31, and Putin is also expected to attend major events in Beijing on September 3 commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II—a personal invitation from Xi extended during his visit to Moscow in May.

Speculation has arisen about a potential meeting with US President Donald Trump during the trip, though the Kremlin has neither confirmed nor ruled out such an encounter. Talks of a possible three-way meeting between Putin, Trump, and Xi have also been dismissed as uncertain.
