Canada, Ukraine To Jointly Produce Advanced Drones - Carney

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this during a media briefing, Ukrinform reports.

"We had a discussion today about specifying and targeting that assistance where it will have the greatest impact, and we will do so... We're proud to be the first non-European nation to participate in NATO's PURL program, the package of the most urgently needed military assistance that will be delivered here next month," Carney said.

According to him, Canada will significantly invest in Ukraine's defense production capabilities.

"We'll also fund over $200 million for the joint production of defense materials in our two countries, particularly advanced drones using Canadian suppliers. And another $165 million for critical multilateral efforts, including, again, enhancing drone resources, as well as more money for humanitarian assistance to support civilians affected by this horrific war," he added.

Carney stressed that any future peace agreement must include security guarantees for Ukraine, covering its land, maritime, and airspace defense. He said the approach for securing peace must remain consistent with the principles of "no decisions about Ukraine being taken without Ukraine, and no decisions about Europe being taken without Europe."

He said that Canada has been, is, and will remain a steadfast ally of Ukraine.
