Putin states Russia still working with Western scientists despite sanctions
(MENAFN) Despite Western sanctions and political tensions, Russia continues to collaborate with Western scientists, President Vladimir Putin said. Speaking to workers in the nuclear sector in Sarov, Putin emphasized that the global scientific community is rooted in unity and cannot be destroyed, noting that progress has always depended on cooperation, even during periods of rivalry.
Putin acknowledged that sanctions caused some partners to withdraw, but many joint projects—particularly in nuclear and space sectors—persist with both “friendly” countries and some aligned with Kiev. He highlighted ongoing collaborations, such as Hungary’s nuclear projects with French and German firms, despite NATO membership.
The president stressed that scientific work continues regardless of political pressures and predicted that some partners who left may return. He also warned of the long-term harm caused by limiting international scientific and educational ties, asserting that Russia will not block cooperation with Western researchers.
Space exploration remains a key area of continued collaboration, with Russia and the US extending work on the International Space Station and discussing future lunar and deep-space missions.
