Türkiye Denies Claims on Iraq Oil Pipeline

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Center for Countering Disinformation on Friday refuted accusations that billions of dollars from the Iraq-Türkiye Crude Oil Pipeline “had disappeared.”

The allegations, which were spread across social media, claimed that Türkiye earned $2.32 billion from the pipeline, transferred the amount to the state-owned Turkish Energy Company (TEC), and subsequently lost $1.42 billion.

The center described these assertions as "completely baseless" on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.

It highlighted that the state-controlled Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) generated $1.48 billion in earnings from oil transportation between 2014 and 2018, and emphasized that the arbitration decision in question made no mention of Türkiye obtaining $2.32 billion in revenue.

The center emphasized that TEC is entirely state-owned, with all its revenues and expenses recorded, audited by the Court of Accounts, and scrutinized by parliament’s Committee on State Economic Enterprises.

“Any revenue loss or disappearance is not possible,” it stressed.

"In the arbitration case, Türkiye defended its rights under international law, the violation claims it brought against Iraq were upheld, and it was ruled that Iraq must compensate Türkiye,” the center added.
