China states stable growth in railway freight
(MENAFN) China reported stable growth in railway freight during the first seven months of 2025, driven by more efficient network operations and enhanced services, according to national railway authorities.
The railway system moved over 2.33 billion tonnes of cargo during this period, representing a 3.3 percent increase compared with the same time last year. The daily average number of loaded freight cars reached 183,300, up 4.1 percent year on year.
Coal transport exceeded 1.19 billion tonnes, while freight volumes for mineral construction materials and grain rose 13.6 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively, compared with last year.
International freight also maintained steady growth. A total of 8,526 freight train trips to Central Asia were operated, marking a 23.2 percent increase year on year. The China-Laos Railway carried more than 3.44 million tonnes of cross-border cargo, up 6.4 percent from the previous year.
Looking ahead, the railway operator said it plans to accelerate the development of a modern logistics system, deepen market-oriented reforms in freight transport, and enhance the quality and efficiency of logistics services.
