Syria, Lebanon Move to Enhance Cross-Border Trade
(MENAFN) In a significant move to enhance trade between Syria and Lebanon, authorities from both nations have agreed to ease restrictions on the movement of goods and people across their shared border, a local news agency reported on Wednesday.
The agreement, reached by representatives of the Lebanese-Syrian Joint Technical Committee for Land Transport, includes measures to reduce customs duties for vehicles and trucks crossing the land border. Discussions are also underway to consider exempting trucks and public transport vehicles from entry and exit fees.
The committee emphasized the need to enforce a 1993 agreement aimed at improving the cross-border flow of people and goods, which has faced growing challenges due to regional instability.
These decisions came at the conclusion of a two-day meeting in Damascus focused on improving border traffic regulations. The discussions were part of a broader effort to address obstacles to freight and passenger movement, thereby boosting economic exchanges and responding to shifting regional and trade dynamics.
