Hakan Fidan Urges YPG to Cease Threats
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued a stern warning on Wednesday to the YPG, urging them to immediately stop posing a danger to Türkiye and the surrounding region.
During a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani in Ankara, Fidan stated, "My call to the YPG is that they should immediately remove themselves as a threat to Türkiye and the region, along with the terrorists they have gathered from around the world."
Highlighting Ankara’s zero tolerance for ongoing actions, he remarked, "At this point, we are beginning to see developments that we can no longer tolerate. We see that the members of the organization have not left Syria; they should not think that we do not see this."
Fidan cautioned that Türkiye cannot afford to feel secure while its safety concerns remain unaddressed in Syria.
He said, "In an environment where Türkiye’s security demands are not being met (in Syria), we have no chance to remain at ease here."
The minister also voiced criticism of Israel’s involvement in the recent unrest in Suwayda, Syria. "One of the main actors behind this dark picture (of Suwayda events) has turned out to be Israel," Fidan asserted.
Furthermore, Fidan shared Türkiye’s wider vision for the future of Syria, emphasizing inclusivity and coexistence.
"The new Syria should be a Syria where all peoples, beliefs, and cultures are preserved, and can live together. As Türkiye, we are making our recommendations in this direction."
Since the collapse of the Assad regime last December, Israel has repeatedly targeted military bases, vehicles, and ammunition storage facilities across Syria.
Most recently, it intervened in Suwayda under the pretext of "protecting the minority Druze," who had conflicts with Bedouin tribes, and also conducted strikes on Damascus.
