Zambia initiates discussions with US over visa deposit demand

(MENAFN) The government of Zambia has promptly responded to the recent U.S. policy demanding a visa deposit of up to $15,000 for Zambian tourists and business visitors.

Mulambo Haimbe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, announced on Friday that Zambia is actively communicating with senior U.S. officials through official diplomatic channels. The goal is to gain a better understanding of this new visa bond program and to discuss potential ways to address the issue.

The ministry has acknowledged the introduction of the visa bond condition targeting certain visa applicants. Haimbe emphasized that this new rule "may have significant implications" for Zambians planning trips to the United States for business or leisure.

Expressing deep concern, Haimbe highlighted the possible economic consequences, stressing that the policy could adversely affect trade, investment, tourism, and cultural connections between the two countries.
