Powerful Quake Shakes Japan
(MENAFN) A powerful tremor measuring 5.9 in magnitude jolted the region off the coast of Okinawa, situated in the southwestern part of Japan, on Thursday.
The seismic activity was recorded 18 kilometers (approximately 11.1 miles) to the north of Yonaguni Island, occurring at 0745GMT at an underground depth of 108.5 kilometers (roughly 67.4 miles), as stated by the US Geological Survey.
The earthquake's tremors were also experienced in the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei.
As of now, there have been no prompt accounts of injuries or destruction to infrastructure.
