(MENAFN) Cambodia and Thailand have reiterated their dedication to upholding a ceasefire agreement during an informal three-party dialogue with China, according to a statement posted by China’s foreign ministry.

The trilateral meeting took place in Shanghai on Wednesday, bringing together Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and envoys from both Southeast Asian nations.

During the discussions, Cambodia and Thailand restated their intention to respect the ceasefire and acknowledged China’s ongoing efforts in helping de-escalate tensions between them.

The gathering was described as open, cordial, and constructive. The statement also emphasized that China has consistently played a positive and facilitating role in promoting a peaceful settlement to border disputes between the two neighbors. The Shanghai meeting marks the latest step in China’s diplomatic engagement on the matter.
