Deaths from gas explosion in Russia's town rise to 7


(MENAFN) The death toll from a gas leak explosion in an apartment building in Saratov, Russia, has risen to seven, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported on Saturday. Among the victims recovered from the rubble was a child.

Sixteen people were hospitalized after the blast, with some in critical condition, while four individuals remain unaccounted for. Russian Emergency Minister Aleksandr Kurenkov traveled to Saratov to oversee the ongoing search and rescue operations, which have been running continuously since Friday.

Rescue teams, including around 20 specialists, search dogs, and eight pieces of equipment, continue their efforts, with the possibility of more people trapped under the debris. In response to the tragedy, authorities declared a regional emergency, and July 26 has been designated a day of mourning.
