MSF: Child Malnutrition In Gaza Has Tripled
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached alarming levels, with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reporting that acute malnutrition among children under five has tripled in just two weeks.
According to the organization, one in four young children and pregnant or breastfeeding women examined in its Gaza clinics last week were suffering from malnutrition. The number of patients seeking treatment for hunger-related conditions has quadrupled since May.
MSF described the situation as“unprecedented,” accusing Israel of“deliberately” using starvation as a weapon of war. The group reported that at least 122 people, including 81 children, have already died from hunger and its complications.
The World Food Programme (WFP) echoed these warnings, stating that about one-third of Gaza's population has gone several days without food, while 470,000 people face what it calls“catastrophic hunger.” Over 90,000 women and children urgently need treatment for severe malnutrition.
Aid agencies point to a combination of factors fueling the disaster: the blockade of humanitarian supplies, the destruction of food infrastructure, and strict restrictions on the entry of food and water into Gaza.
The mounting death toll has prompted renewed calls from MSF and other international organizations for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. They insist that only lifting aid restrictions and ensuring safe delivery of supplies can prevent further loss of life.
Observers warn that unless swift action is taken, Gaza's deepening hunger crisis could spiral into one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the region's recent history.
