Iran Reports 40 Injured in Commercial Hub Fire
(MENAFN) A significant fire broke out on Tuesday at a major commercial facility in Bandar-e Anzali, a northern port city in Iran, injuring at least 40 people, according to a local news agency.
Jamshid Mohammadi, chief of Gilan province’s emergency medical services, told the news agency that while five of the injured were hospitalized, the majority were treated on-site and subsequently released.
Mohammadi highlighted that among the injured were 12 firefighters who experienced gas poisoning during their efforts to control the blaze; all were treated at the scene.
The fire started in the warehouse area of the Venus complex located in the Anzali Free Zone around 9:45 a.m. local time (0615 GMT), as reported by Mehdi Kazemian, the zone’s spokesperson, to media.
Despite the rapid deployment of approximately 150 firefighters, media stated that 90 percent of the complex’s second floor, spanning about 2 hectares, was completely consumed by flames.
Power fluctuations are believed to have sparked the fire, and no fatalities have been reported at this time, according to media.
